"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to cling to, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness." Philippians 2:3-5⠀ This is something the Lord has been continually teaching me. I can become so self-focused that I forget others around me. He has helped me greatly, but it is not natural to consider others before ourselves. We like to claim our own rights; what we deserve, what others don't, what we want, what we need etc.⠀ We learn in Scripture that in order to imitate our Savior, we must sacrifice for others. He did so, on the cross for us. How can we look at the cross, where Jesus died, and refuse to die to self. Christ, the second Person of the Trinity laid aside His glory for sinners, people who deserved nothing but His wrath. Yet, He loves us and showed us the depth of His love in sacrificing Himself for us. ⠀ Oh, that we would become Christ-like in this area! That we would become servants, as Christ became for us. That we consider others' interests before for ours, counting others as more important than ourselves. This tends to hurt our pride of selfishness. Only God can help us obey in this way.⠀ Our gracious Father, Who sent Christ to be a Servant for us, help us to imitate Him. Help us to lay aside our rights and to walk in humility as our Saviour did. Let this be for Your glory and the good of the Body of Christ.
