I wish I could say that every time I have had struggling pop up, I go straight to God for refuge, counsel, and strength for the battle. However, I tend to try to fight on my own first… until I am all out of my own power and strength. When I am all bruised up, tired, and nearly fainting on the battlefield, that is when I realize once again, that I had no business trying to fight on my own in the first place. Our relationship with God is that of a Father, Friend, Savior, and King, but also a Warrior. He is our Victorious Captain and our Leader on the battlefield. It would only make sense to do what He told us to do. Right? He told us to put on the full armor of God, which are all spiritual (Ephesians 6). But, with those pieces of armor, He tells us to do it with all manner of prayers. This is one of the things I believe we forget. How many times have we gone to a friend saying, “Girl I have tried everything, the only thing I know to do now is praying?” What?!? I wonder what it would be like if we were to go to Him before we went to anyone else. I believe we would more often say, "Look at what the Lord has done!!”...before all of our fallen and bruises and bandages. If you are in a battle, have you been using prayer as a last resort? Let's go to God first, instead of last. He will strengthen us, give us instruction, soothe, and protect. This doesn’t mean we won’t still get cuts and falls, but our hope will be in God first, and not our strength or other people's counsel. Before you try any line of defense, go to God in prayer!
